Featured Blog: Truly Lovely

Well hello fellow For the Love of Blog-gers!!
I am Kassi, one of two closet crafting sisters that finally came out in the open with our nasty crafting habits! :) I say closet crafting because in general the people we hang with on a daily basis don’t realize how much we enjoy crafting and that we craft quite often. We discovered blogging only a few short months ago, but like with most things that we do, we have jumped in feet first and happen to really love the experience!
Our blog, Truly Lovely with the Laney Sisters, is centered on the things that we find to be, well... truly lovely. A good majority of those things are our crafting projects! We have blogged about several different crafts so far. A few favorites of ours are the Chalkboard Canisters that I made, which you can check out here
Or the felt hair bows that Kayli came up with. Check those out here
We also LOVE featuring other crafty bloggers through our Fancy This Fridays Linky Party! To check that out, give us a visit! And please, while you’re there, grab a button! Share the blogging love, right?!

We also blog about the lovely happenings that seem to go down in the lives of Kassi and Kayli. We kind of think we lead semi-interesting lives… But then again who doesn’t think that their own lives are at least a little bit interesting!
I graduated with my Masters last December, so with a year out in the real world, I am just getting into the grown up tasks of planning my wedding for this summer,  hoping to purchase a home someday soon, tackling my first real world job, and all the trials and of course, tribulations that come along with that!
Kayli is a senior in high school, getting ready for graduation, choosing a college to attend, planning for her first home on her own, and all that excitement. She’s also the family baker, and is known around her school for being the girl to bring in cookies or cakes on someone’s birthday.
And I think she takes a lovely senior picture... Don't you?!

So that’s us, the sisters behind Truly Lovely with the Laney Sisters. We hope you’ll stop by and leave us a word or two of encouragement… Remember I said we’re new to blogging… We can use all the encouragement we can get!
And thanks to For the Love of Blogs for having us!
We are so excited that we found this fun community of fellow bloggers!!!
P.S. It would make our semi-interesting worlds much more interesting if you would grab our Truly Lovely button and share it on your blog!

I started my blog in January 2010 before I began student teaching. I had heard that reflecting is a great way to be a better teacher, which I had spent my first 5 years of college planning on becoming. I wanted to share my reflections with the world, so I started the blog ahead of time, something I do with stuff like this (like my website, which I started in 2007 because I decided that when I became a teacher, I would have a class webpage. It’s mostly a place for me to show off my early stories and poems). So at first, I posted my poems from a poetry writing class I was taking.

Then came student teaching in mid-March, which ended up being short lived: I was asked to leave halfway through because there were parts of my teaching that showed I wasn’t ready to be a teacher. No matter what I chose to do, I’d have to delay graduation one more year, meaning I would graduate after 6 years of college instead of 5. I was upset about this for a while: I had spent all 5 years of college focusing in becoming a teacher, and now it might not happen. My mom told a family friend of ours who works at my college about what happened and the friend suggested that I talk with Career Services and take some interest inventories that would tell me what jobs and careers best fit my personality. I did and although teaching came up as one, I was starting to feel like it wasn’t for me personally. So by the day I would have graduated, I changed my major for a second time in my college career: my major had gone from English Teaching (when I started college in 2005) to Elementary Teaching (when I realized teaching high school wasn’t for me) to Writing.

My new major seems to be where I fit in best, even though I still feel that I wasted time, money, and energy on training to be a teacher. My minor had been Creative Writing, so all I have left is the business and media classes, which should be interesting since most are not in the English department. However, I’ve always loved to write and have wanted to be a writer since I was 12, so expanding my writing horizons is something I’m looking forward to.

On June 11, 2011, I will officially, finally, be a college graduate. But until then, I’m blogging about taking advantage of the unexpected blessing that is my sixth year of college. As a shy forever singleton who’s legal but doesn’t drink much alcohol, the most exciting thing that happens to me is a new project, assignment, or grade from my classes. Still, I enjoy being on my own as much as I enjoy being at home around my family. Plus, I love to bake, so if I bake anything other than your basic chocolate chip cookie or snickerdoodle, you’ll see it, like this yummy cheesecake/brownie combo:

Thank You for being a part of our community. Please head over and show some love. Enjoy the day!

For The Love of Blogs Introduces: DrawCity

I am a graphic designer and illustrator from Cape Town, South Africa.
I run an Etsy shop where I sell mainly my illustrations, handmade illustrated garlands/bunting and in between I have a range of t-shirts and perspex cuffs which contain stylized designs of my illustrations. My personal favorites are my little drawings of mini coopers cars and my coffee range titled JoeCity.
I'm a coffee fanatic and I hope to expand my range of illustrations onto tea towels or should I say coffee towels? Aside from that, I also run the Drawcity blog. I post daily about topics ranging from beautiful treasuries that Drawcity has been featured in to featuring talented and popular illustrators especially ones that are similar in flavor to my Drawcity style. I try to keep Drawcity all about drawing and illustration. As of January next year I plan to start featuring how drawing and illustration is used in interior design and decorating projects. Exciting and I can't wait!
Thank You DrawCity for being here. Please stop by to say hello and make their day. And stay tuned for more great features.

Tasty Tuesday

Welcome friends to Tasty Tuesday. We hope you'll link up and join the fun today.

After the glutony of the past few months (Halloween candy, Thanksgiving feasts and Holiday treats) I'm sure many of us plan to work on our waistlines or eating habits once the New Year begins. I thought I would share a light and healthy salad dressing to get us started on the right foot. I always keep this made up and in my fridge.

Balsamic dressing:
1/2 cup EEOO
1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
Juice of 1 orange (1/4 cup) - you can use lemon instead or in addition
1/2 tsp oregano
1/2 tsp basil
1 Tbs dijon mustard
3 garlic cloves crushed fine
salt and pepper

Or if you are like me and are not ready for the New Year diet to begin...here's one more tasty treat to salivate over...

Remember that we don't have rules but ask you each to be respectful of each other. Please leave a genuine comment on any blog you visit. Feel free to hop around and visit as many of our member's blogs as you would like. If you have a Tasty Tuesday post we'd love for you to grab a button but we encourage all our members to link up regardless.

If you are new, be sure to click our welcome button and find out how to get involved. And don't forget to vote for our new blog of the month! Only a few more days until the next blog of the month is announced.

Happy hopping! We can't wait to get out there and see what's cookin'.

Featured Blog: The {Not Always} Happy Homemaker

Welcome and Thanks for being here for another great feature.

First of all, I want to thank For The Love Of Blogs for giving all of us Blogging fanatics a place to come together and for letting us have maximum exposure to other bloggers and to blog readers. Us: {Your Very Welcome}

My name is Missy. I live in Virginia. Actually, we are not too far at all from Liberty University (think Thomas Road Baptist Church and Jerry Falwell). I'd just turned 34 years old. My husband works at Kroger Food & Drug, and I am a *former* employee of the company (quit two weeks before having to return from Maternity Leave).

My blogging started long ago. At least three years back, but over on places like MySpace and on FaceBook. It wasn't until about a year ago when I friend directed me to Blogger/BlogSpot.

From there, my blog, The (Not Always) Happy Homemaker was born.

It mainly details my life as a Stay-At-Home mom and wife. We have three kids (and three cats) that drive us insane most of the time. My husband and I have been married for eight years, together almost eleven years. My oldest is his step-daughter, but you would never know the wiser, seeing as they love one another as if they were the real deal.

Plus, it certainly helps that my son who is legally disabled gives me all kinds of gems to talk about. I call him my "legally papered crazy kid", being he has a slew of mental disorders, including ADHD.

And I am also a Corneal Transplant graft recipient (10/29/2009, my mother's death anniversary, exactly 20 years to the day). I'm an advocate for Opt-In Organ/Tissue Donor Registry.

I'm also very opinionated and don't care if I piss someone off. My blog, my views is how I see it. I don't mind agreeing to disagree, and do like a CIVIL debate here and there.

Here is one of the latest pictures of my kids, who got to finally go sledding after the first good snow fall (and the first one period) for the winter season...

And here is one of me (taken by myself, sitting by the Christmas Tree)...

Hmmm...FTLOB wants an interesting story? I think I may be able to scrounge one up.

Let's just say that I wasn't for all medical and technical purposes (not divine purposes!), not destined to be sticking around after my birth. I had a host of medical problems at birth. As in literally right out the chute.

I'd come out with a collapsed lung, fluid build up on said lung, an almost completely detached esophagus and required a tracheostomy right away. Then, had to be air-lifted to another hospital (in which they told my father that more than likely I wouldn't survive past lift off, let alone to the entrance) for emergency micro-surgery to re-inflate my lung and reattach my esophageal tract.

For the longest time, I required a feeding tube that went directly in to my belly, past my diaphragm. They gave me the liquid nutrition through that, and I was NEVER able to breast feed or even bottle feed. I had my first bottle at about two years old.

Apparently, there were times as I sat in my highchair for tube feedings that I got a tad bit bored and apparently decided to make my own fun.

One day, as told by my Dad, before my mom could 'unhook' me from the tubing that lead to the bag on an IV pole, I unhooked the main tubing myself somehow and I used the tube (still filled with liquid nutrition) as a lasso (think Texas Steed Ranger) and was swinging that sucker in circles.

Dad said I flung the "food" allllll over the entire kitchen. Nothing was left untouched. Even my parents. He said I covered walls, the floor, the stove, dining table. Everything. And that they had to duck as to not get hit in the face with my food.

Well, I guess that this is it. Feel free to come on by my place (my blog) and sit a spell. Also, feel free to grab my Blog Button and "pimp" me out, if you wish to. Just go easy on me, is all that I ask. (=

A Special Thanks to Missy. Please head over and make her day!

Featured Blog: Write Now, Write Later

Welcome and Thanks for being here. We're glad to introduce you to such fabulous blogs. Grab a cup of joe and hang with us for a bit.

For The Love of Blogs Introduces:

Once upon a time there was a girl.  The girl fell in love with writing.  She wrote about everything, all the time.  All was going well until the girl found out she was a narcoleptic.

She was very sad for a time.  Seems all she wanted to do was sleep and sleep and sleep more.  She couldn't write while she was sleeping so of course her writing suffered.  Then an amazing thing happened.  The girl was given Ritalin.  She was so happy she wrote and wrote and wrote some more.  She wrote books, she wrote poetry, she wrote short stories.  She wrote with her friends and she wrote with strangers.  She heard the guy on SouthPark say "Drugs are bad" but she didn't listen.  She took them three times a day and wrote until she couldn't write anymore.

One day though, the drugs stopped working.  She started sleeping again, and there was nothing Prince Charming could do except watch her sleep.  His kisses wouldn't wake her, so he started yelling.  That didn't work either.  Finally he just gave up and saved his kisses for when she was awake, so they kissed a lot less often than they used to.

The girl didn't like that so she got the nice man at the hospital to give her more drugs.  He gave her Adderall.  She was happy again.  She was kissing again, and writing again.  Sometimes about kissing.  Prince Charming was happy and so was she.

All fairy tales must come to an end though.  Even the new drugs stopped working after a time. The girl was sleeping more than ever.

She figured she'd never get a novel written since she was sleeping so much, and she wanted to share her writing with the world!  She thought and thought and thought and finally came up with the solution to her problem.  If she couldn't stay awake long enough to write an entire novel, she'd write.....a blog!

Now the girl is at her computer whenever she's awake writing all kinds of things on her new blog.

She was having so much fun with her blog, she started another one.  And then she joined blog hops to find more people to be friends with, and more blogs to read.  Now she's reading all the time, and only one thing still makes her sad.  She needs more people to read her blogs.  If she could only find someone who would help her find those people, well she would live......

Happily Ever After.

The End
Thanks Donna for being here. Please head over and make her day!

Tasty Tuesday

What's good for the day. Hmmm. I'm thinking some good ol' Christmas dinners.

I love the smell of the house when something yum is in the oven. Nothing better. So for a holiday tasty tuesday we'd love for you to link up anything. A cookie recipe, dinner, drinks, anything....we'd love to see what your cooking up.

Magical Monday Blog Hop

Good morning and welcome to a new week! Mondays are Magical, so link up and start waving those wands at as many blogs as possible. If your new here and have not yet linked to a hop, we would encourage you to do so. It's a great way to find you first of all and secondly it's going to build your readership. And that's exactly what we encourage. We want you to stumble across blogs that interest you, blogs that you like. We do not encourage a follow for a follow. Do not feel pressured to do something you don't want to do. That's the exact reason we have no rules for our weekly link ups. We want you to feel at ease in making friends. We want you feel comfortable. This site is to help you get noticed and we want everyone to respect everyone.

You don't have to grab any of our buttons but we would greatly appreciate it. One of our main goals is to pull in a variety of different blogs that we haven't come across and I must say that it's really working. We've met some really amazing blogs that are new to us. If you know a friend who is not yet a member (We like to use member instead of follower) maybe mention this site to them and nominate them for blog of the month.

If you haven't linked your blog to the pages above yet, what are you waiting for? This is where we pull our features that get mentioned in our hops!

Have a great day and don't forget to come back daily for more fun. Now go spread some Monday Magic and make new friends.

Featured Blog:Confessions of a Love Addict

We're happy to feature you. Head here if you'd like to be. Welcome. Sit back, kick your heels up and relax, we've got another great blog to share.

For The Love of Blogs Introduces:

With two suitcases, six years’ worth of savings, and all the ambition and hope in the world, I boarded a flight from North Carolina to New York City. Like many women who travel to the alluring lights of Manhattan – my high-heeled foot stepped onto the streets knowing that one day, I would find the success I dreamt of, and of course, the love of my life.

Nearly a year later, I have landed the magazine job, a group of incredible friends, and a tiny studio that belongs just to me – but Mr. Right isn’t quite in the mix. After years of beating myself up for being single, blaming myself for every relationship gone wrong, feeling not good enough or pretty enough or anything-enough – I sat myself down in the coffee shop on my block and started Confessions of a Love Addict.

Yes, my name is Lindsay and I’m a love addict.

Anything and everything that has to do with, reminds me of, keeps me connected to, gives me hope for, or just is flat-out –love. No, I’m not actually “diagnosed” or in need of actual therapy – but I finally reached a point where I was sick and tired of worrying about finding love. And even more so, I was exhausted of putting so much pressure on myself about relationships.

So, taking from Alcoholics Anonymous, I created a 12-step program to overcoming my love addiction – which begins and ends with self-love. By letting go of insecurities, celebrating and embracing my flaws, stopping the search for Mr. Perfect (and let him come as he may) – I’m beginning to enjoy my 20’s, with or without a man.

I’m not a model, I’m not an actress, or a musician – but just a writer and more importantly, a 20-something woman who while she hopes for the right man, more than anything – she wants to fall in love with herself. I’m loving my city, loving my life, loving my friends, loving my shoes, loving my adventures (in dating and in personal growth), loving my journey to single-gal happiness, and learning so much along the way.

Because before the romance, before the ring, before the big white dress, before the little girls in pink coats, and anniversaries and birthday parties – there is a relationship that is so much more important to develop…and that’s the one you have with yourself.

If you’re a single girl weeding your way through the dating jungle, regardless if you’re in NYC, Kentucky, or across the globe – come on this journey with me. We may be single, but in that singular form – we’re all in this together.

Thank you Lindsay for being here and sharing your story. Please head over and make her day.

Today is comment love day. Leave a comment here, head over to featured blog and leave one there, then whomever else you wish to leave a comment for. Please be so kind to return the love if one leaves one on your site.

Enjoy the day and Link Up To Fab Friends Friday↓

Fab Friends Friday

Welcome. We're glad your here. Relax and enjoy a beautiful day with Fab Friends. Don't forget to nominate blogs. We're going to be featuring another Blog Of The Month soon. Stay tuned for another great feature as well.

Give a shout out in your post somewhere introducing your new fab friend-

She'll be happy to help you find a free toilet. Head over and mingle. Enjoy the day and come back tomorrow for Weekend Wander.

Thirsty Thursday Blog Hop

Good morning and welcome to another fun filled hop. Here, we have no rules for our hops, so please feel free to jump in and mingle. If your new to blog hopping, we encourage you to link up so we can meet a new face and we think this is a fantastic way to make friends. We encourage everyone to be courteous and follow blogging tip #14.

We like to unwind and get ready for a relaxing weekend. You can share a drink recipe if you'd like. We love to see what everyone else is getting tipsy on. I like girlie drinks {Ok. Men. Sip that Patron on the Rocks} so I tend to post a lot of them here. But that commercial with Disaronno with Cranberry on the rocks looks good. If anyone has tried, please let me know.

I've been meaning to try a mixed drink with lemonade because we buy the big container of it at Sam's and have yet to try but found a vodka, lemonade and sprite mix that may be good. Knowing me I'll put very little liqueur in and a load of sweet stuff.

So we'll keep it short and sweet today. Jump in, have fun and grab a glass. Cheers!
